Kentucky yellowwood (Cladrastis kentukea) is an enigma to me. This tree has risen to prominence in urban and park plantings in recent years, in many locales. With all the smooth-barked deciduous trees (magnolias, beeches, hornbeams) around, this tree can escape the mind upon initial examination.
