Aradale Asylum is the largest abandoned asylum in the southern hemisphere. This grand Victorian mental hospital opened in 1865 on top of a hill in Ararat, Victoria. It had many controversies over its 120 years in operation. Various methods were used to treat patients that are no longer used today such as lobotomies and restraints.
