Infielder Andy Ibáñez played hero for the Detroit Tigers in Game 2 of the 2024 AL wild-card series against the Astros, but he won't return for 2026.

The Tigers also non-tendered six pitchers who had already been designated for assignment and removed from the roster earlier this week: Right-handers Jason Foley, Dugan Darnell, Jack Little, Tyler Mattison and Tanner Rainey, and left-hander Sean Guenther.

Andy Ibáñez provided the key pinch-hit that lifted the Tigers past the Astros and into the AL Division Series a year ago. He’s now a free agent after the Tigers did not tender the veteran infielder a contract by Friday’s deadline.

Troy Melton posted a 3-2 record with a 2.76 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP in 16 games (four starts) in the regular season.

Per Jon Morosi, the Detroit Tigers are one of several teams interested in RHP Devin Williams. Williams is considered one of the best relievers in the free agent class and almost certainly would provide an upgrade to Detroit’s unit.
