With the trade deadline just nine short days away, some folks believe that the New York Yankees may have the worst trade deadline of any contending team.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that the Yankees are among the clubs that inquired with the Diamondbacks about a trade for third baseman Eugenio Suarez. However, less than two weeks out from the MLB trade deadline, Arizona is still “undecided” about moving its All-Star hitter.

Brian Cashman uses the expression often in reference to the trade deadline. Because after 2018, MLB eliminated waiver trades between Aug. 1-31. That left the non-waiver portion as the last time you can externally improve your team.

New York enters the series three games behind the first-place Blue Jays, with just 10 days remaining until the July 31 deadline. This is the start of a pivotal stretch. They play these three in Toronto, followed by three at home against the National League East-leading Philadelphia Phillies, then a four-game set against Tampa Bay.
