China's Tianwen 2 probe has captured striking pictures of home as it heads out to a near-Earth asteroid to collect samples.

The space rock came as close as within 4.15 million miles from our planet, according to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Now, using the U.S. National Science Foundation's (NSF) Gemini North telescope in Hawaii, astronomers have captured the first detailed image of this cosmic interloper.
