CHICAGO — Chicago Public Schools officials have yet to identify a solution for the district’s looming $734 million deficit, as the August deadline to finalize a spending plan fast approaches. In an update at a Chicago Board of Education meeting Thursday,

District officials say they expect to save about $165 million after laying off some central office staff and crossing guards this summer. But leaders are still searching for $569 million in either savings or revenue.

CPS Chief Operations Officer Charles Mayfield told families in a Friday afternoon note that staff and other cuts this summer will result in various changes to how schools are run this coming school year.
