According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, which began publishing full moon names in the 1930s, some Native American tribes referred to June's full moon as the "strawberry moon" to mark the short but sweet strawberry harvest season.

The moon is also part of what's called a major lunar standstill, and the next one won't be for another 18.6 years.

This month's full "Strawberry Moon" graces the night sky on June 11, putting on a spectacular show as the fully-lit disk of Earth's natural satellite rides low over the southeastern horizon.
