House Democrats on Tuesday elected Rep. Robert Garcia of California as the new ranking member of the House Oversight Committee following the death of Rep. Gerry Connolly last month. "I am incredibly honored to have been obviously elected the ranking member for the Oversight Committee,

Garcia is an up-and-coming sophomore from California who promised to usher in a new generation of leadership for Democrats on the committee.

Garcia, 47, in just his second term, defeated a more senior lawmaker to succeed the late Rep. Gerry Connolly on the panel, which provides oversight of the Trump administration.
