Buncombe County officials said they are beginning the process of removing vehicles that were abandoned in the right-of-way after Hurricane Helene.

While some abandoned vehicles have already been removed, significant work remains to clear the public rights-of-way and restore accessibility and safety.

The St. Marys Police Department (SMPD) will search city streets and parking lots for inoperable, abandoned, untagged, and expired vehicles beginning next week.

In recent weeks, the city has removed over 20 abandoned vehicles, from 18-wheelers to mopeds left in city-owned lots and officials are stepping up efforts to clear more from city streets.
