A Stockton police sergeant and eight officers wearing face shields and carrying batons helped escort vehicles from the city’s ICE facility Thursday night.

Masked Border Patrol agents on Thursday raided a Home Depot parking lot in Sacramento County, the sheriff's office and an advocacy group said. At least one U.S. citizen was taken into custody, according to a woman who said it was her husband.

Home Depot’s role as one of the country’s largest hiring sites for day laborers — and an easy target for ICE raids — stems from larger social and economic forces, including the growth of illegal immigration; changes in the construction industry; the company’s dominance; and the boom-and-bust cycle of the housing market.

U.S. Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino said on X that one of those who was arrested had a list of convictions, including possession of narcotics with the intent to distribute. Another operation on Thursday took place in Los Angeles, he wrote.

The Sacramento RISE Hub — short for Regional Immigrant Support and Empowerment — will provide rapid response services, legal assistance and community education. The effort will partner with local schools, labor unions, faith-based organizations, local governments and other community groups.
