The winter storm bringing heavy snow and ice to parts of the Midwest will also bring the threat of severe weather to parts of the South and Southeast on Wednesday.

Brandon Black of the NWS Mobile office said "we can't rule out a tornado once again" as more severe weather heads toward Wednesday night.

The individual storms ahead of a line expected to push through late this evening will have the most likely chance to produce gusty winds and even tornados. A line of storms will develop across the region late today bringing a wave of storms from west to east late evening into the overnight.

You will need to be weather alert for the potential for localized flooding, and the possibility of a severe storm capable of producing damaging winds, or an isolated tornado.

We should remain WEATHER AWARE this week as there are a couple of windows of time for severe weather. Damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes are possible. WEDNESDAY

A First Alert Weather Day has been declared for Wednesday as a severe storm risk will develop for this afternoon continuing into the evening hours.

The seemingly endless cycle of snow, torrential rain and disruptive weather will continue this weekend as another powerful storm system lashes the central and eastern U.S., with the added threat of a multiday severe weather outbreak.
