Conventional fluorescent tube light fixtures officially need to die now that a Japanese company has announced a Wi-Fi-equipped LED fluorescent tube lamp replacement worthy of being on a spaceship.

Cree, Inc. is aiming to relegate fluorescent tubes to the pages of history with its new T8 series of LED tubes that promise LED-level energy savings and greatly improved light quality.

This technique also allows the reduction of power needed to create light and increases the compatibility of the unit with fixtures using T12, T10, or T8 diameter fluorescent tubes.
