Much of the U.S. is in the grip of frigid conditions amid snowy weather disrupting flight with ripple effects reaching the Southland's local airports.
American Airlines announced its first direct flight to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) out of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. That service will start on April 7, the airline announced Thursday. Currently, Hopkins only has one direct flight to LAX through United Airlines.
“I don’t think anyone else on the flight even saw it,” the passenger said.

American Airlines to launch Cleveland–Los Angeles nonstop, ending United’s monopoly on route
CLEVELAND, Ohio – American Airlines will begin nonstop service between Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport in April, adding competition to a route currently served only by United Airlines.
Beginning in March, travelers will be able to get non-stop, year-round flights to Los Angeles from Pittsburgh International Airport.
