A Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher said at 7:49 a.m. that a caller had reported seeing masked, armed people “grabbing people and putting them into vehicles.”
Home Depot’s role as one of the country’s largest hiring sites for day laborers — and an easy target for ICE raids — stems from larger social and economic forces, including the growth of illegal immigration; changes in the construction industry; the company’s dominance; and the boom-and-bust cycle of the housing market.
The Sacramento RISE Hub — short for Regional Immigrant Support and Empowerment — will provide rapid response services, legal assistance and community education. The effort will partner with local schools, labor unions, faith-based organizations, local governments and other community groups.
