Johnathan Rodríguez hit his first home run in the majors, Slade Cecconi went a career-long 8 1/3 innings and the Cleveland Guardians beat the Athletics 8-6 on Friday night.

The Guardians went into the All-Star break hot, and they emerged the same way Friday night at Progressive Field. Slade Cecconi pitched into the ninth inning, and the Guardians struck hard and fast against lefty JP Sears on the way to a 8-6 win over the A’s.

The non-disciplinary paid leave of Cleveland Guardians right-hander was extended through Aug. 31 amid an ongoing investigation, Major League Baseball announced Friday. The investigation reportedly is related to gambling.

Cleveland Guardians pitcher Luis Ortiz's leave was extended by Major League Baseball on Friday. "MLB and MLBPA have agree to extend Cleveland Guardians pitcher Luis Ortiz's non-disciplinary paid leave through games on August 31 while MLB continues its investigation," MLB said in a statement, via ESPN's David Purdum.
