WASHINGTON -- Logan Thompson made 27 saves, including 16 in the third period, and the Washington Capitals defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Second Round at Capital One Arena on Thursday.

The Carolina Hurricanes did what they had to do to swing home-ice advantage in their favor through two games, but fell in Game 2 against the Washington Capitals.

Knowing full well the chances of being competitive in their second-round series against the Carolina Hurricanes hung in the balance, the Washington Capitals flipped the script from the opener in a big way in Game 2.
