Auburn High School has a new girls head basketball coach. Niaja Taylor gets the job. Taylor was an assistant coach at Auburn the last four years, and she is a 2016 Auburn graduate and a former Auburn point guard.
Auburn was one of five teams to finish that regular season unbeaten but was ranked third, meaning the Tigers missed out on the No. 1 vs. No. 2 BCS national-championship game. Southern Cal won that game but later vacated the title as part of its NCAA sanctions.
Auburn retired Cam Newton’s No. 2 jersey Monday. The Carolina Panthers have only one retired jersey — the late linebacker Sam Mills’ 51.
