For the first time since the 1985 season, the Astros have been shut out in three consecutive games after losing in 10 innings Tuesday.
With a tantalizing pitching matchup of young aces like Hunter Brown of the Astros and Tarik Skubal of the Tigers, it’s not surprising runs were hard to come by Tuesday night. For Houston, it’s becoming all too commonplace.
The Houston Astros have their work cut out for themselves to take this series after falling in Monday's opener with the Detroit Tigers.
The Tigers are coming off a strong effort in the opening game of the series on Monday night. After a few scoreless innings, Detroit jumped out in front in the fourth before exploding for four runs in the following frame. The Tigers added four more runs in the seventh to pull away and grab a 10-0 victory.
Logan VanWey made seven appearances earlier in the season for the Astros and has been at Sugar Land. Tayler Scott was designated for assignment.
McCormick should take some pride in his recent performances. He didn't allow a run during either the top of the ninth in Houston on Sunday, and he added a strikeout to a scoreless inning in the bottom of the eighth Monday in Detroit. The unexpected pitching appearance thrilled Astros fans, one of whom even captured a fan cam to mark the occasion.
