We went to the point to experience a beautiful sunset and look for shells. This is a perfect spot for doing so. Be aware that there is only one very small free parking area on Coast Guard Drive. You …Full review by Andy P

Parking can be tricky but well worth it. Great beach, lots of shells and did not see any trash or cigarette butts on the beach (which is amazing).Full review by Marysue H

Fail to see what's so great about this place. Shells were nothing great. No breeze on sound side. Very buggy. No parking. There ARE several places to access by but NOT on any map. BE PREPARED TO HIKE…Full review by Naturefre
We went to the Point today. We actually went into the parking lot at the Coast Guard station briefly. From there, I could see a long piece of beach out into the ocean. There were people driving on it. It's not right at the Point. How do you get there??

There are a couple of access points but they are HARD to find. One is a walking trail, on the ocean side and you will go up and over a dune which is not easy if you have leg issues. Further around to the sound is another access which MIGHT be where you drive in but I'd check first to make sure it is allowed or if you need permit. If you park at the Coast Guard station lot you WILL be doing quite a bit of walking no matter what. There are better beaches with easier access.
Are you allowed to drive on the beach at the point to avoid general parking? (We’ll be there in the off season)

Yes. But you need to go online and purchase a pass. $100 for the year. There is a discount for a handicapped pass. There is a parking lot that has been packed lately due to the pandemic. After you park there is a bit of a walk to the point.
Where is public parking located for the point? I cannot seem to find a specific location online?

There is a small parking lot with a white Pickett fence that you can park at- only about 10-12 spots. It is just past the sign for the POINT. From there, you have to walk up to the end of the road, turn right and walk to the end where you are at the point. Go up the stairs and PARADISE! Well worth it!! Get there early enough to see the sunset. Enjoy!

If you're asking about RV campgrounds, there are numerous ones in the area. The closest is the Holiday Trav-L-Park Resort, which is just off the beginning of Coast Guard Road (near Highway 58). Some of my in-laws stayed there and were very impressed. If you're talking about pitching a tent, the only one I know is the Cedar Point campground in the Croatan National Forest. A lot of folks seem to stay there (mostly in campers), but I can't speak to the campground otherwise. There are some great hiking trails through the salt marshes and maritime forest.
